Guest Room Crown Moulding

The next room on my list to get the crown treatment is the guest room.  Waaaaay back 4 years ago when I first redecorated that room, I painted it 'Stormy Coast', which I still love.  However, I wasn't very good at edging by hand, so I taped the ceiling where it meets the walls.  When I took the tape off, it pulled off pieces of ceiling :(  So it looked terrible...Plus it started to have the drywall tape issue I mentioned in a previous post.

Crowning myself Queen

I've had a bee in my bonnet for a while now about installing crown moulding in all the upstairs bathrooms (2) and bedrooms (4).  Mainly this is a laziness issue, but I also really like crown and our first floor has it, so why not the second??

Because this house is almost 20 years old the drywall tape is starting to separate a bit between the ceiling and wall.  I COULD scrape it out, tape it anew, mud it and spend weeks feathering it all out, then priming and painting both the wall and ceilings...but that's a TON of work, and I really loathe doing drywall repair.  Thus the laziness reason to do the crown install.

Kitchen window goes Roman!

We've been in this house one month short of 4 years.  That entire time we've stared at the naked kitchen window and just never could make up our minds what we wanted there.  That's our backyard neighbor's master bedroom deck you see there - it's a weird backyard because we're the last house before the cul-de-sac.

Before I forget and it turns 2013!

I did the FB 'pay it forward' post a couple weeks ago.  I have Erin, Rhian, and Cathy..I'm glad there are 10+ months left this year because all I can think of is giant furniture from ana-white.com, and I don't see how that could possibly be posted to the UK for Rhian, and it certainly couldn't fit in my case!

So, here's a post to remind myself to do it, cause that FB status is loooong gone!

Painting when you don't really LOVE the colour - for that room

We've been in this house coming up on 4 years.  I think that entire time I've had paint chips taped to the dining room walls along with actual test spots from probably 15 different test colours.  Occasionally I'd take the chips down and throw them away and then prime over the test spots.  We never could find a colour to agree on.  After a year or so, one of the corners started to crack (not from all the painting..just from the house coming up on 20 years old) so that needed scraping out and then taping & mudding.  Which took forever because I hate drywall stuff, as I may have mentioned before ;)

China hutch re-do

A loooong time ago (June?  Yes, of 2011...I had a busy summer!) I saw this post on one of my favourite blogs - http://betterafter.blogspot.com/2011/06/not-so-nana-like-now.html and dreamed of having an old hutch to do that to.  I must have whined incessantly posted a lot about it on Facebook, because my friend let me know she had one hanging out in her barn or garage or something that I was welcome to.  yay!

Proof positive..

I've just received an email stating I'm no longer the Foursquare mayor of both my local Orange and Blue :(  This is definite factual proof that I haven't been as DIY as I should be for a while.  How depressing.

It's like opening a can of worms..

Today I decided to finish repairing those drywall-screw pops in the corner of the living room - which is the reason I have yet to do the second coat of paint.  I got the first coat up and was going to do the second the next day but then saw 3 pops in one corner.  Easy enough to fix, would only take 10 minutes to screw them in a few turns and slap on some spackle.  Wait a day to dry then paint!

Holy hell it's been 8 months.

Wow.  I knew it had been a while, but not THAT long.  Well, I take that back.  You know how you forget to do something and then you remember and think 'oh, I'll do that real soon now!' and then forget for a long while and then you remember and THEN you kind of start lying to yourself and making yourself forget again?  Yeeeeah, I hope that's not just me.
